Jogging Stroller and a Month Old Baby

Sorry folks, a jogging stroller and a month old baby just don’t mix. If you are a runner you probably can’t imagine a day without running, but you must keep your baby’s safety in mind.

If you are expecting a child, you should know that you will be able to run quite comfortable with a jogging stroller in a matter of twelve months. That’s right, you must wait until your child is around one year old to begin taking him, or her, out for a run. Why? Children under the age of one cannot hold up their own head, which means that they could become severely injured during a rough run. While some strollers allow a child to lie down during a run, the impact from the bumps that you will hit can be enough to cause damage. No matter how you cut it, a jogging stroller and a month old baby just can’t be combined.

So, what can you do during that one year span? Well, you can leave your child with the other parent while you head out for your daily run, or you can invest in a good baby backpack (front facing) and head out for a few strenuous hikes instead. Once your child is able to hold up their head on their own, you can take them on any hike or run that you choose. If you are going to use a running carriage for an everyday carriage, you may be able to use that stroller after all.

As long as you don’t run with it, a jogging stroller and a month old baby can work. Still, it is important that you find one with adequate head support. Also, many parents find that wrapping their babies up in snugly blankets that act as neck support is a good idea. Either way, be extra certain that your child has the neck support that it needs. When it comes to those walks or runs, you never really know what might be waiting for you down the trail.

Sometimes, sidewalks and trails can contain large holes that may cause your child harm. Even if they are placed inside of the most secure carriage in the world, a hard bump will certainly place a large amount of pressure on their neck and head. Don’t take the chance that you might harm your baby.

After one year has passed, a jogging stroller and a month old baby may be best friends. While it may seem like a long time to wait, you must not take your baby on that run until they are strong enough.
