Baby Gear Checklist
You’re about to have a baby – congratulations! Now, all you have to think about are the things that must be on every parent’s baby gear checklist.
There are really two categories that you need to consider when it comes to that baby gear checklist. The first category is the “basics,” which consists of things that you need to buy. The second category is “extras,” or things that will make your life easier, though they aren’t essential. So, let’s begin with the basics list (this list will encompass things you need for the first two months).
Since you will be going back and forth to the doctor and to play dates, it is extremely important that you have a good car seat. Find a car seat that is up to date, perfectly stable, and in good condition – a car seat is not something that you want to buy second hand. Other things that you will need include: a stroller; bassinet; crib; crib mattress; diapers; wipes; washcloth’s; trash can that seals; one piece pajamas; one piece outfits; socks; booties; warm weather clothes; mittens; newborn bath tub; soaps; lotions; towels; bottles; bibs; and baby monitors.
Additionally, you need to make sure that your home is safe for your newborn, so go around your home right now and plug all those sockets, remove any dangling chords, and make sure to pay attention to those things that could cause your child harm. Next, let’s discuss the extras that you may want to purchase at some point. Things on the extra list include: sling; gym arch; changing table; dresser; rocking chair; diaper genie; breast pump; bottle sterilizer; bath toys; hooded towels; mobiles; video baby monitor; swing; bouncer; crib toys; books; music; and vaporizer. As you can probably tell, the extra baby gear checklist consists of things that would be nice to have, but they are not absolutely crucial.
Try not to panic when you think about all the things that you will need when your child arrives. Most of these items are rather simple to acquire, and a lot of the time you won’t even need most of them (also, you will get a lot of them at your baby shower).
Even if you don’t have the latest stroller or item, you will do just fine. All you really need are those things on the basic baby gear checklist...the rest will come with time.
